A walk along the Haul Road at Dyke Marsh (Fairfax County) produced some new
arrivals, including four Yellow Warblers, one Warbling Vireo, and a
Baltimore Oriole all singing near the entrance to the Boardwalk at the end
of the Haul Road peninsula. I noted a half dozen Common Yellowthroats along
Haul Road as well as a Northern Parula; the latter has probably been here
for awhile. An additional Yellow Warbler and Warbling Vireo were singing
near the "Big Gut Bridge" just north of Tulane Drive and a Prothonotary
Warbler vocalized near Bridge 21 near the now inactive Tulane Drive Bald
Eagle nest. I also found several Yellow-rumped and Palm Warblers that are
continuing their northbound journey. Bald Eagles were busy at the
Morningside Lane nest, but it was impossible to determine if young are
present.
