You guys know your waterthrushes. I received quite a few responses to the
quiz and the answers were unanimous - NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH (which I had
already entered into my Avisys database as latest new yard bird).
Some of the remarks included, and not limited to:
* Extensive dark streaking on underside (dense, fairly neat and sharp)
* Yellowish wash on the belly (This may not have shown up clearly in
the images due to low light and use of flash.)
* Spots on the throat although a bit hard to see unless you zoomed up
the images.
* Supercilium dull (drab) looking;
* Brownish or dull pinkish-brown legs (Even with use of flash, the
legs were dull-looking.)
One respondent noted: "And so does habitat [support this conclusion] as
during migration the Northern Waterthrush may be seen in a variety of wooded
habitats, often away from water, including parks and backyards.
