Mon, 7/8 was a great morning on the Lynnhaven River in VA Beach. All birds seen
from kayaks exploring the marshes near Crab Creek / Lesner Bridge, Pleasure
House Creek and Church Point. Most notable were the number of Least Terns.
There were 2 groups of birds resting on the exposed sandbars - I've never seen
so many Least Terns. Another great sighting was a Least Bittern. We have seen
Least Bitterns in this same area for the past 5 years.

1 Least Bittern -- 1 adult male - great look at him perched in the marsh grass

4 Yellow-crowned Night-Heron
2 Turkey Vulture

4 Clapper Rail
3 American Oystercatcher -- 2 adults and 1 juvenile
6 Laughing Gull
2 Ring-billed Gull
2 Great Black-backed Gull
120 Least Tern -- Remarkable # of birds - adults and juveniles
22 Royal Tern
4 Sandwich Tern
55 Black Skimmer
2 Northern Mockingbird
15 Red-winged Blackbird
12 Boat-tailed Grackle
