Nick--The current Voice of the Naturalist report includes a sighting of No.
Waterthrush at Hughes Hollow in Maryland on August 5, and I reported a
Blue-winged Warbler in my yard in Great Falls, VA. on August 4. Both appear
to be
extremely early dates if they signal the start of the fall migration. Since
you saw the fine throat stripes on the bird you observed, combined with the
August 5th sighting in MD., I'd say you have it right.
