And at 4 p.m. today (1/27) at the reservoir there
were: 4 Canvasbacks, 2 Ring-necked Ducks, one
Lesser Scaup, one Common Merganser (female) and one Horned Grebe.
Earlier, at Gravelly Point north of National
Airport there were 107 Redheads in a tight group
in what little open water was available on the
Arlington side of the Potomac. Nearby were
groups of (Lesser) Scaup and a few Hooded
Mergansers. No sign of any owls over at the
airport. The wind was howling from the north at
about 3 p.m. and the temperature dropping like a stone.
