Dear Wildlife Supporter:
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) is pleased to
announce that a draft of the Virginia Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation
Strategy (CWCS) is complete. The CWCS was developed with extensive input from
other state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private
citizens. While the plan focuses on species and habitats of greatest
conservation need, we believe it is an action plan for the conservation of all
of Virginia's wildlife, and it will take all of Virginians interested in
wildlife conservation to effectively implement the recommended actions. The
strategy reaches beyond the boundaries of DGIF to provide a comprehensive
picture of wildlife conservation in the Commonwealth.
The CWCS is a 10-year strategic plan required for continued funding through the
State Wildlife Grant Program administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service. Once completed and approved, the CWCS will help direct wildlife
conservation efforts via the State Wildlife Grants Program, other programs of
DGIF, and hopefully through the programs of many partners, statewide.
We invite you to review and comment on the draft of the CWCS available through
the following website:

All comments submitted through August 26, 2005 will be considered.
Sincerely,
David Whitehurst, Director
Wildlife Diversity Division
