Hi all,
Cold morning, but pretty active on Twin Branches trail. Notably absent were
the Yellow-crowned Night Herons that nested there last year. Last year's
nest seems abandoned and I didn't see any indication of new nesting
elsewhere (but it's a big woods).
List below, highlights in caps:
Canada Goose (16)
Mallard (1)
WOOD DUCK (2) - First I've ever seen there
Mourning Dove (4)
Red-bellied Woodpecker (3)
Downy Woodpecker (4)
Pileated Woodpecker (1)
E. Phoebe (2)
Blue Jay (10+)
Am. Crow (3+)
Fish Crow (1)
Tufted Titmouse (lots)
Car. Chickadee (7)
Brown Creeper (4, maybe more)
WB Nuthatch (3)
WINTER WREN (1)
Carolina Wren (4+)
Ruby-crowned Kinglet (8+)
BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER (1)
HERMIT THRUSH (4 - 6)
Am. Robin (Lots)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (6)
PALM WARBLER (several - 8+)
Song Sparrow (1)
WT Sparrow (3)
DE Junco (8+)
No. Cradinal (16+)
Common Grackle (3)
Am. Goldfinch (only 1)
It's also been active in my yard lately, with a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH
visiting daily for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Also a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER has
been a frequent visitor.
