Dear VA-Birders,
A group of five northern VA birders carpooled to the upper elevations of
Thompson WMA (http://www.dgif.state.va.us/HUNTING/wma/thompson.html) in
Fauquier County Monday May 1, arriving at 8:00 AM. A cool early morning
gave way to a sunny late morning, and the warblers did not disappoint. At
least four CERULEAN and three HOODED WARBLERS were seen and in good voice.
The trees are not fully leafed at the higher elevations and so we had very
good views of these warblers.
Other birds of note:
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER
KENTUCKY WARBLER
REDSTART
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER
YELLOW-THROATED VIREO
BLUE-HEADED VIREO
RED-EYED VIREO
SCARLET TANAGER
BROAD-WINGED HAWK
Wildflowers: trillium and yellow lady slipper
