The NVBC Swift and Nighthawk walk (actually more of a stand) on Sunday was a
great success. The
swift numbers were a little low, counts ranged from 70 to 100 - they zip
around a lot. However,
they did put on a good show of diving down the chimney at Luther Jackson
school (Fairfax Co.
intersection of Gallows Road and Rt. 50). The Nighthawk disply at Tysons
Corners was terrific.
Conservatively there were about 70 of them. Since they are lit from below
it is very easy to
pick out the males from the females. The lights at the pyramid towers(one
block south of the
intersection of Gallows Rd. and Rt. 7) go on at 8:30pm. The Nighthawks show
up almost
immediately. Quite a spectacle.
