Hello all,
We went out late in the day on Monday, May 2 and most of the day May 3 on a
fundraising birdathon for Audubon Society of Northern Virginia.
We ended up with 94 species. We had some good finds, the already mentioned
BOBOLINKS Monday evening; SUMMER and SCARLET TANAGERS at Leesylvania State
Park; ORCHARD and BALITOMORE ORIOLES, along with a WARBLING VIREO, and CASPIAN
and FORSTER'S TERNS at Occoquan NWR and various Warblers at our stops. Misses
included a Blue-headed Vireo and the Turkey spotted by another birder at
Occoquan.
This seems to be a great spring for WOOD THRUSHES. We saw them at almost all of
our stops. Also, it was great to hear the song of the WOOD THRUSH at various
stops.
All in all, it was a great time to be out birding. The only surprise was the
near freezing start to our day Tuesday morning.
Good birding to all,
Jay and Carol Hadlock
