At approximately 14:00 Myself and several birders Viewed the Immature
female snowy owl in the Greenfield directly across the street from the
sewage treatment building. My viewing location was (38.3483,-78.9285).
This is the same snowy owl that was recently seen from the McDonald’s
parking lot off of I81 exit 240. The bird is very conspicuous if you are
looking in the right place and it is not necessary to view with a scope
however it is distant views without one.

Four birders joined me for the last Friends of Dyke Marsh-sponsored Sunday--
morning walk of the calendar year. The walks do not take place during the
Christmas Bird Count season (Dec 14- Jan 5). The first Sunday morning walk
of 2018 will be January 7.
It was sparrow heaven today with six Fox Sparrows foraging (with one
briefly
singing) together with White-throated and Song Sparrows just south of the
open area that we call Dead Beaver Beach on Haul Road. The group observed
several waterfowl species, with a flock of 59 Hooded Mergansers in and just
south of the Little Gut (the little body south of the Haul Road Peninsula)
and nearly two dozen Green-winged Teal near the mudflats near Hunting
Creek.
A small flock of Lesser Scaup and Horned Grebes have been hanging out
together in the Little Gut for the third straight week.
