Mount Jackson, VA: Wissler Rd and Rt 11 (near Meems Bottom Bridge)
The owl was first reported via e-bird on 1/27 at 5pm. The note said that it was
perched on irrigation equipment in the cornfields that are on the east side of
Route 11. I drove down after work this evening and located the owl around
5:30, after 30 minutes of scanning the cornfields on both sides of Rt. 11. The
owl was perched on an orange post in the middle of the cornfield on the east
side of Rt. 11. The post lines up pretty well with Wissler Rd, which is a good
place to park.
Due to the mismatch of cold and dress slacks, I only observed via scope for
about 5-10 minutes, but it's definitely a snowy with light-to-medium barring on
back. Took flight twice (perch to ground and back).
Good birding,
