Hey Birders!
Tom and I saw an incredible sight that (from what we are told) is happening
on a daily basis. At the south end of Va Beach on Princess Anne Road is an
intersection where Food Lion is (where you can continue on P. Anne Rd to go to
Back Bay or turn left to get to Sandbridge....sorry I don't know the name of
the
other road). In the field beside Food Lion Snow Geese gather in the morning.
Tom heard it first from a person who travels to work daily around 7:30am. Today
we were there between 7:30-8am. How many Snow Geese you may be
wondering......THOUSANDS! Yes! They were not only in the field by Food Lion
today but also
on the right side of Princess Anne Rd. (in the fields right by the road) as you
go out to Pungo. Today the Snow Geese blended in very nicely with the snow.
Tomorrow or the nest day they should stand out even more as the snow melts.
I am not sure just how long this has been happening, perhaps 2-3 weeks now.
Nor am I sure how much longer it will go on. There was another person taking
pictures of the geese this morning when we were there. He went into the field
and some of the geese flushed, took flight and quickly settled. By Food Lion it
is easy to view them through the tall bushes that border the field and parking
lot. Now did I look for a Ross's Goose....No...not today as I was in a rush
with places to go. I will try to study them closer later this week and see if I
can find a Ross's in there. There are so many that I am bound to get lucky.
Anyway.......beach people....ENJOY THE SIGHT!
