I met Diane Lepowski at Skyland on a slightly overcast and cool morning. We
birded Limberlost trail, Big Meadow visitor ctr and Pocosin cabin this morning.
Many juveniles were found including Redstarts, Towhees, Blue-headed Vireos,
Hooded and Black @ White warblers, and a Veery in the Limberlost parking lot. A
probable Willow flycatcher at Big Meadow and a Ruby-throated Hummingbird and
Canada warbler at Pocosin cabin. We then went on our separate ways and I
followed Diane's directions to South River Falls trail where I followed the
trail from the picnic area parking lot to the AT which I followed north to the
fire road and then looped back to the overlook. Near the parking area I
encountered a family of 4 Hooded warblers. On the AT I ran into a group of appx
3 dozen mixed juveniles, all interacting with each other. Many Black & White
and Worm-eating warblers, Redstarts, Titmouse, Red-eyed Vireo, Downys, and 2
Canada warblers.
A great reprieve from the hot weather in the valley.
