In addition to an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW in the field to the left of the
platform at the end of the Hike/Bike Trail, the highlight of my walk on
12/12 were four fox sparrows, two singing. I was watching one by the first
meadow when a beautiful red fox ran onto the trail only 20 yards from the
sparrow (which seemed unconcerned). I can now add this to my list of
simultaneous bird and namesake animal sightings: cattle egret and cattle;
snail kite and snail; fish crow and fish; catbird and cat (not sure about
this one); grasshopper sparrow and grasshopper; and cowbird and cow.
Still need a herring gull and herring, and given the season, and elf owl and
an elf would be nice . . . .
