Hello all
Just got back from the Middlebrook area where brenda Tekin had reported to me
that she had five Sedge Wrens on Mish Barn Road ( Rt. 876 ) . This is the same
area where we had hosted several Sedge Wrens last year . After work Pat & I
made a trip up there & when we got to the intersection of Rts. 876 & 602 we
heard one Wren singing . I got a brief look at the bird that was singing but
all others were quite . The temps were in the mid 80's & to me very humid .
Getting there take I 81 to exit 220 to Rt. 262 W to Rt. 252 ( Middlebrook Rd. )
. Turn left onto Rt. 252 ( South ) & drive into the small town of Middlebrook .
Once in Middlebrook turn right onto Rt. 876 ( Mish Barn Rd . ) go to the end
where it intersects with Rt. 602 . At this intersection there is a field to
your left . Brenda said that most of the birds were in this field & at least
one bird was across the road near the barn at the intersection . I will be out
there on Thursday morning to see if the Wrens are still there & to find out if
there are more than five .
Other birds of interest were at Walnut Hills Camp Ground the Barnacle Goose is
still there . Also over at Smith's Pond in the Swoope area a few Shorebirds
were around to top off my day . Shorebirds at Smith's were as follows .
Lesser Yellowlegs -- 2
Spotted -- 2
Solitary -- 8 -- fall peak count
Semipalmated -- 3
Not a bad afternoon of birding .
