Two singing Sedge Wrens are still present on the Ramp Lane of Eastern Shore
of Virginia NWR as of this morning at 8:15; this is on the southeastern side
of the refuge. They sang steadily from opposite sides of the road, just
about 50 feet east of (past) the gate. These birds have been present for
several months but are just lately beginning to sing steadily over the
morning hours. Though known to nest in northwestern Accomack County, the
species is not documented as a nester, to my knowledge, in lower Northampton
County -- worth keeping an eye on these birds to see if they attempt nesting
this year.
