Hello Va birders,
Can anyone tell me where I can go to try to see a Screech Owl?
I spotted one (grey morph) this winter in a nest box along the W&OD trail in
Arlington. And I have seen one in a Sycamore tree at Great Falls NP since then
(red morph), but in both cases just the head was visible. On last year's NVBC
June trip to Long Branch along the W&OD, they saw an adult Screech Owl with
several young perched on a branch in the woods just off the W&OD bikepath. I
have been searching for a Screech Owl in this area several times a month since
I first saw it in Feb or March. I was there again yesterday but have only seen
the owl one other time at that location and that was with a small group of
other birders just a few days after my first sighting.
I would like very much to see the whole bird out of a box or nest hole.
Wouldn't mind seeing some juveniles either.
Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I don't mind driving 1 to 1-1/2 hours to chase after birds I want to
see.
