At 10:00 am this morning I got a very good look at a Say’s Phoebe on the fence
across from the
parking area at the Lost Mountain Bridle Trail segment
of Sky Meadows State Park. After chowing down on what appeared to be a
wooly bear caterpillar, the bird preened for a while before flying off toward
and over the ranger’s residence.
This is a personal first for me in Virginia.
In addition to the Phoebe, I also chased up (actually several crows did the
work for me) a Short Eared Owl
just beyond the fence line where Rolling Meadows Trail takes a hard right near
the farm equipment shed.
