We have about 8" of snow here and I have a white plastic bucket upsidedown
on the deck as an extra spot with birdseed on it. Last evening I noticed 3
different looking song sparrows on the bucket holding the rest of the birds
at bay. They are very tame. I can walk past the all glass door which is 5
feet away without bothering them. After a closer look with binocs I could
see the forked tail, pinkish legs, pinkish lower half of beak and pinkish to
darker upper mandible. The striping was finer and sharper that song sparrows
but there were smaller center breast spots on two of them. Of course the
yellow lores gave them away and I'm assuming the bad weather and hunger sent
them to the deck. They left the sunflower seeds alone and concentrated on the
millet and milo. They are back today-two adults and a juvenile. Its a treat
having as long a look at them as desired.
