Subject: [va-bird] Sarah's First Post: Chimney Swift Roost
Hello. My name is Sarah, and I've never posted to Va-Bird before.
A few nights ago, my daddy and I went to my school, Stratford Landing
Elementary School, because my Dad on Back-to-School night had seen chimney
swifts, and so we wanted to see if they were roosting there. We packed a
picnic dinner, and we saw the chimney swifts circling around my school
looking for bugs. We saw them circling around and around the chimney,
trying to get brave enough to go in. Two went in, and it took along time
for the rest to get in. We saw the rest go in around 7:30. We counted 66
of them. I called the last one to go in a scared-y-cat. We also saw two
bats. It was fun watching them-my eyes just followed where most of them
went. That was the first time my Dad and I saw chimney swifts going into a
chimney. I'm glad my Dad got me to go there.
