The Darlington Heights Winter Bird Count (near Farmville) was held on
January 8. This is the 29th year for this count (started in 1967 and
done for 14 consecutive years, then revived in 1991 and ongoing since
then). The most interesting report of the day was Rusty Blackbirds.
Three groups of the birds were sighted; two smaller flocks (a total of 14
birds) and one larger flock of 80. This is the first report of Rusty
Blackbirds on this count since 1979. Also, a Common Raven was reported,
the first time this species has been seen on the Darlington Heights
Winter Bird Count.
