Hola,
I ended up in southern Culpeper County today with my father, and drove past
Horseshoe Farm on Route 614 between Rapidan and Locust Dale. There was an
immature dark morphed Rough-legged Hawk here, a location that George Harris
first
reported a Rough-legged at 21 December. In what is an unusual occurrence, we
ran into Sue Heath, unplanned, a few miles away, and she headed off to see the
bird. She was unable to find it at Horseshoe, but instead found a dark
Rough-legged at the berry farm on Route 615. As she watched that bird, it flew
back toward Horseshoe Farm and out of sight. Very possibly the same bird as
the
two locations are probably only a half-mile or a little more the way a hawk
flies.
I saw the bird .75 miles west on 614 from the intersection with 615, in the
exact spot that there were Loggerhead Shrikes breeding a few years ago.
We also saw a couple Brown Thrashers around today as well.
Cheers,
Todd
