Hello all
Today I went out to check around to see if the Ross's Goose was still on Bells
Lane . Well it is but it has moved a bit from the open fields where I had
reported it a few days ago. This morning I found it on Bells Lane on the pond
in back of the barn . Also this is where the flock of Canada's bed down for the
night . Keep checking the fields because it still goes there too. Getting to
this pond follow Bells Lane to where almost to the end . You can see a paved
lane that goes to the left follow this & stay straight ( down hill ). You will
see the barn & pond .STAY on the paved areas with your car . You can get out
next to the barn but with out permission you can not walk around the pond . The
Farm Manager may ask who you are . Tell him that you are here to see the Ross's
Goose . I had talked to Mrs. Moore this morning & she thought it would be ok to
let other birders see the Goose if it is there & not in the fields . Directions
to Bells Lane -- I 81 N . or S . to exit 225 . This will put you on Rt 275 go
west a short distance . You will see a street sign with Bells Lane --- turn
left follow to top of hill &scan fields for large flock of Canada's . Bells
Lane is a public street & make sure that your cars do not block the road way .
Second group of birds found today on Rt 652 Guthrie Rd. in the Stuarts Draft
area were a flock of about 150 + Horned Lark . In this flock I found 2 Lapland
Longspur's . This flock was in the feeder lot near the barns & silos . With the
SNOW that is coming down as I write this , it will not be hard to find these
birds now . Directions -- I 64 East or West -- get off exit 91 onto Rt. 608 go
south towards Stuarts Draft for about 2 miles you will see a green street sign
for Guthrie Rd. Rt 652 turn right & follow road -- check out the open plowed
fields for Horned Lark . Once you get to the feeder lots look for Horned Lark
also . Note NEVER leave the dirt road because these fields are private lands &
we do not have permission to walk on them .
With most all of the ponds frozen , waterfowl was in short supply but at the
Dupont Ponds there was a few species of waterfowl on these open waters .
Great Blue -- 1
Black -- crowned Night Heron -- 1 adult & 1 imm.
Ring -- necked Duck -- 2
Hooded Merganser -- 1
Bufflehead -- 1
Coot -- 4
Good luck to all who wants to seek out the Laplands or the Ross's Goose .
