Preliminary report for Thu., Sept. 19.
(Detailed report to HawkCount will follow.)

Things were in a word - NASTY - throughout the day. SE - ESE winds pumping
in moist air kept east and north ridge pretty much socked in throughout the
day with combination of thick haze and fog. High humidity levels
(87%). Out over the valley things were not much better with a very thick
haze. The fog drifting over the ridge toward the NW into the valley hung
in the air above the thick haze.
Very disappointing to the counters who were hoping for a good flight but
only managed to find one Broad-winged.
I arrived by 5:30 p.m. (4:30 EST) and conditions had not improved except
that the valley, although encased in a thick haze, was lit up with filtered
sun. Wind was out of the ESE and increasing. It was low over Waynesboro
where I managed to find very low sailing BW (250+) and 6 Osprey heading WSW.
This morning, here in Charlottesville, 22 miles east of the ridge, the sun
is finally making an appearance and seems to be burning off the upper level
fog.
