After all the rain and winds of the past week, the flooding along the banks
of the Potomac River at Riverbend Park has receded and the swiftness of the
river has calmed somewhat. The river trail is again walkable.
Water birds seen this morning:
D-C Cormorant 8
Great Blue Heron 10 +
Canada Geese 10 +
Wood Duck 7
Mallard 6
Ring-necked Duck 2
Bufflehead 4
R-Br Merganser 2
Ruddy Duck 2
American Coot 1
BONAPARTE'S GULL 13
Ring-billed Gull 3
No sign this morning of the White-winged Scoter, Red-necked Grebe, or loons,
which were being seen prior to the storm.
Warblers seen this morning:
Palm 1
Louisiana Waterthrush 3
Yellow-rumped 8
Still no Parula or Prothonotary, both of which I first saw here last year on
April 12.
