Ralph Wall, Keith Huffman, and I walked along the Potomac at Riverbend Park
this afternoon looking for waterfowl.
We found two adult, female, Goldeneye about halfway down from the observation
platform to the north end of Conn Island on the Maryland side of the river.
They were swimming and feeding together alone. This is most likely the same
pair of female Goldeneye that we have observed there before.
There were also about 40 to 50 Buffelhead spread out in small groups all over
the river. Down by the dam there were 100+ Ring-necked ducks; this is the
largest number we have seen yet this year.
Also a bunch of Coots, a couple of Mallards, and a lot of Canada geese.
The two adult bald eagles were perched in their not unusual place in the trees
on the north end of Conn Island.
As I was leaving I noticed a large number of Robins, probably 50 or more,
flying from Virginia into Maryland.
