Yesterday I got to Riverbend Park at about 6pm, just before the front
came through. The light was exceedingly beautiful and the weather warm.
I sat down on the bench by the feeders to wait for my wife who was
driving in from the Skyline Mall area. Saw some great birds while I
waited.
After the front came through, the light got much worse, and the
temperature dropped. Lovely weather we're having.
Here are the highlights:
RED-NECKED GREBE - 9 - directly across the river from the boat ramp.
2-pair plus 5 males
HARLEQUIN DUCK - pair - we spotted them flying down river in bad light,
about 1/2 across the river. We both made out uneven white on black
stripes on the neck and pointed wings. The HD was the only DLO
(Duck-like Object) we could find in Sibley's that fit the neck markings
and wings. We're open to other suggestions if this is too rare to be
believed. We saw them about 7:00pm flying toward Great Falls Park.

DOUBLE CRESTED CORMORANT
TURKEY VULTURE
GREAT BLUE HERON - moving like a bat out of hell. It's amazing what a
tail wind will do to that bird. With the front moving through I'd
estimate the wind in the 20-30 MPH range.
HOODED MERGANSER - possible pair flying down river. Not enough light to
tell.
AMERICAN CROW
Feeders:
WOODPECKER SP - Downey or Hairy. Couldn't tell which
AMERICAN GOLDFINCH
YELLOW RUMP WARBLER - 20
TUFTED TITMOUSE - 4
MOURNING DOVE - 4
CHICKADEE - 3
