Andy Rabin and I birded River Bend Park in Fairfax County, Virginia, =
this
morning from 6:30 t0 8:30 am. 59 total species were found including 10
warbler species all of them singing. The gate was not open at 6:30 when =
we
arrived, but we had good luck in the meadow until the gate opened. There =
was
a family of Wood Ducks with 8 ducklings covered in yellowish down, and a
family of young Canada Geese. I also saw a fledgling Tufted Titmouse =
begging
for food just outside a cavity in a Sycamore tree. There were many Great
Blue Heron flying overhead, so there may be a rookery nearby. After the
meadow we walked down stream from the boat launch to Great Falls =
National
Park and back. Common Mergansers and Ring-Necked Ducks are still =
lingering
on the river. It was pretty chilly this morning (45), but sunny, and a =
lot
of fun!!!
Good Birding!
