After I posted the note, copied at the bottom of this message, the VSO group
working on the Gold Book came up with an alternate proposal for the front
cover. Instead of a montage of 4 images we decided to use a single image of a
Common Raven, the avian emblem of the VSO.
We are now searching for a quality image of a raven, preferably in flight
against a plain sky background. If any photographers have such and image and
would like us to consider it, please submit to the same e-mail addresses below.
Same deadline, format and details.
My apologies to the photographers for the reversal. We received some excellent
images, which I will keep on file in case we use a few color images on the back
cover.

Notice to all photographers and digiscopers.
The Virginia Society of Ornithology is soon to publish its "Gold Book," the
latest edition of VIRGINIA'S BIRDLIFE: AN ANNOTATED CHECKLIST. We are seeking
quality color digital images for the front and back cover. Interested
photographers are invited to submit up to two images for consideration. We are
searching for at least one representative species from each of Virginia's
physiograhic regions -- the coastal plain, the piedmont, the mountains & valley
region -- plus one pelagic species.
The only requirement is that birds were photographed in Virginia.

Format: TIFF, EPS or high resolution JPEG . If the file is too large for e-mail

Include the following information with each image:
Species
Place photographed
Date photographed
Photographer's name and address
Is the photographer a member of the VSO?
The photographers of all selected images will be asked to sign a standard
release form.
The selected photographer will be acknowledged in print in the book.
The VSO offers no royalties or other monetary compensation for images used.
