Thanks for the report, Craig! I stopped by the reservoir first thing this
morning (Saturday) and easily found my life Red-throated Loon from the
Reservoir Road side of the water. Also present were all 3 grebes (1 each)
and some Common and Red-breasted Mergansers. I did not see any other loons.
I also stopped by the Dulles Wetlands and found a Fox Sparrow plus several
species or dabbler on the water, including Mallard, Pintail, Green-winged
Teal and Black Duck. The sun was directly ahead, so there were others I
could not identify.
My last stop of the morning was on Montressor Rd in search of the
Rough-legged Hawk. Strike three on that bird. On the first large pond on
the left side of the road, there were a dozen or so Ring-necked Ducks and a
lone drake Canvasback.
