Greetings to VA birders:
13 birders from Loudoun, Fairfax, Frederick, and Arlington counties
participated in the monthly bird walk at the Blue Ridge Center for
Environmental Stewardship this morning, November 22. We located 38
species. Highlights included a Fox Sparrow, 2 Purple Finches, 9 Yellow
Bellied Sapsuckers, 85 Song Sparrows, and a pair of very vocal Ravens
who were at play for most of the morning along the ridge. Other

More information and directions to the Blue Ridge Center for
Environmental Stewardship can be found at www.blueridgecenter.org. The
walks, sponsored by the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy
(www.loudounwildlife.org), are held at 8am the fourth Saturday of each
month. (There will be no walk at the Center in December due to the
Christmas Bird Counts elsewhere in the area.)
The Center is private property of the Robert and Dee Leggett Foundation
and it welcomes birders and others who want to come out and enjoy the
land. Center staff asks that visitors call ahead, email Center
naturalist Fiona Harrison in advance, or stop by the administration
building off Rt 671 near the Neersville Fire House before entering
Center property. (540) 668-7640, or fharrison@xxxxxxxxx. Ms.
Harrison is happy to tell prospective birders more about the trails and
birding opportunities. She also invites you to become a part of the
Center's volunteer group and to let her know what you find.
