Sixteen members of the Rockingham County Bird Club got about 75 species today
birding in out of the rain today across Rt. 33 into Pendleton County, WV with
stops at Brandywine Recreational Area, the shale barren just north of
Brandywine, the Germany Valley Overlook, Roots Run Road, Germany Valley and
finally Seneca Rocks. Some highlights were 3 Spotted Sandpipers at Brandywine
Recreational Area, two Magnolia Warblers, and Bobolinks and a Golden-winged
Warbler along Roots Run Road.
At Seneca Rocks we watched a Yellow-billed Cuckoo with its tail fanned out
drying off after a shower, saw a pair of Least Flycatchers at the nest, heard
an Acadian, and had good looks at a Chat and Common Yellow-throat. Lots of
Yellow Warblers and Baltimore Orioles. Also had all the Vireos but the
Blue-headed, and Mike Smith found a Yellow-throated Warbler at the end of the
day.
