Hello Birders,
Yesterday, Roger & Lynda Mayhorn, along with Ed & Barbara Caudill, two new
members of the Buchanan Co. Bird Club, birded Musick's Campground on South
Holston Lake and Osceola Island. The island is just below the South Holston
dam.
The nippy weather soon warmed up and helped make it an enjoyable day to be
out.
At Musick's Campground a large flock of Gulls,(without a scope it seemed
mostly Ring-bills) were gathered on the VA side of the campground. These
gulls have been hanging around for some time. Also seen was a Great Blue
Heron. No Grebes were to be found.
Osceola Island proved to be more productive with 60+ Bufflehead, 7
Ring-necked Ducks, 3 beautiful Green-winged Teal, 4 Am. Wigeon, 1 Winter
Wren, 1 Red-tailed Hawk and 1 Turkey Vulture. This was a first visit by the
two new members, and they really enjoyed the experience.
