I should have checked the weather forecast this morning, but I didn't.
Fortunately, it was warm and the rain kept those pesky biting Deer Fly away
from me. In spite of the rain, Occoquan Bay was good this morning. I end up
with over 50 species (only 3 warblers and no gulls or terns). The highlight
was a Least Bittern (a lifer) landing about 30 ft from me in the reeds near
the beaver dam. As expected, that was it for the Bittern. It never showed
itself again. Anyway, I felt that was my reward for birding in the rain.
Birding in the rain is quiet the concept after 6+ years birding in a dry
Southern California.
