Hello VAbirders,
Today I started a new kind of bird list than any I've had before, "Birds
seen/heard while shoveling snow."
Here are the species on my list so far:
Song Sparrow
Carolina Wren
N. Cardinal
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Chickadee
Blue Jay
N. Junco
White-throated Sparrow
E. Starling
A. Goldfinch
House Finch
Mourning Dove
Mockingbird
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
House Sparrow
Red-tailed Hawk
A. Crow - several chasing said Red-tailed Hawk
Canada Goose - 12 headed south, 4 headed north
WB Nuthatch
Tomorrow I'll have more shoveling time, so perhaps I'll add a few more
species to my list. I haven't had to shovel this much snow since, when was
it, 1996? If another such snow doesn't come again until 7 years hence, I
will not be broken-hearted. My 13 yr-old daughter is totally enjoying this
snowfall. And I did too when I was her age. But at 47, I'm no longer
enthralled with snow. Snow snow go away and don't come again any other day!
Thanks to my bird friends for cheering me as I dug out my truck today! And
if at all possible, I'm moving closer to the sunbelt before the next "big"
snow! ;-)
PS: LOTS of birds at the feeders!
