Bob Klarquist and I led a group of 17 birders at Occoquan this morning. It
was a very pleasant morning for birding, at least until the wind starting
rising about 10:30. We found 53 species overall, despite some surprising
misses, and ended the walk about 11:15 due to predicted traffic problems on
I-95. Lots of waterfowl on Occoquan and Belmont Bays included 10 Common
Goldeneye (4 flying and the rest scattered through the large flock of Lesser
Scaup) and 2 horned grebes. Tree swallows and Osprey have returned.
