VA Birders,
The ID of the hawk I posted at
http://users.mikrotec.com/mayhorn/MystHwk/MystHwkP1.htm
is an IMMATURE COOPER'S HAWK. The relatively large, flat, square looking head,
the thin tear drop streaking on the breast, the long tail with the white
terminal band (which may not always be present on immature birds) and the
relatively thick legs are all indicators that this is a Cooper's.
36 birders ventured guesses at the ID. The results were as follows:
Cooper's Hawk 29
Sharp-shinned 4
Northern Goshawk 1
Merlin 2
