Greetings VAbirders,
After a longish roadtrip back from Texas, arriving last night, I was
somewhat numb this morning. But the sound of my first E. Towhee of the
season perked one eye open, and the sound of a N. Parula perked the other
eye open. Funny, I didn't see or hear a single Towhee in Texas, nor coming
or going either, so I was tickled to find a pair in my backyard this morning.
The bird that caused all my senses to charge UP this morning however was a
Blue Jay, of all things. We've all heard Blue Jays do super imitations of
Red-shouldered Hawks, right? But this Blue Jay sat in our Tupelo tree and
did a perfect Red-TAILED Hawk. Boy, did that surprise me! I kept
watching it go "keeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr, keeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr,
keeeeeerrrrrrrr!" Gees, was that bird good! If I hadn't seen him doing it
I would have sworn it was a Red-tailed.
I love this stuff!
