Long time no see!
I haven't done much birding since late June, but I've been keeping my eye
out for...well anything. Today I had a great sighting! While I was in
Manassas on Popwicke Ct. I saw a small raptor circling in the air. I
immediately figured it was a Mississippi Kite, although I didn't have any
field marks except shape of the bird and it's song. I have never heard one
before, but this bird's call sounded, to me, like the quality of the Pewee
but with the pitch of a Red-tail. That was at 11:50ish. In the sky near the
sun were 7 Black Vultures and below them were 3 Turkey Vultures. Later in
the day I saw the MIKI a couple more times. I figured it was the same bird
since I was in the same area. The last time I saw it the bird was much
lower and in his turns I could see the gray body and get some more detail.
The most striking field mark were the whitish patches in the secondaries.
This was my second ever sighting and first good quality one.
