After a morning appointment on Ft. Belvoir I swung by the archery range/basin
area of Accotink Bay Wildlife Refuge around 10:45 a.m. for a look for wading
birds, in particular. I was surprised to find not a single Great Blue Heron,
but equally surprised to find 2 immature Little Blue Herons actively feeding
directly accross from the archery range parking area. There were 9 Great
Egrets, 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, and the call of a Killdeer. Also of note were 5
Forster's Terns (1 adult and 4 juveniles) and a Red-shouldered Hawk. Osprey
were very numerous, but I did not espy a single Bald Eagle.
