Paula Sullivan and I got to Leesylvania State Park this morning as the sun
was coming up...a beautiful fall day. We hit a few pockets of activity near
the
Fairfax House site and along the road by the picnic area. Warbler activity
was slim - BT Green, Parula, Redstart and Magnolia - we also had a WE Vireo w.
some RE Vireos as well and both Kinglets. Moving on to a very quiet Julie Metz,
we found Song Sparrows and Common Yellowthroat. Further north at Occoquan, we
met up w. Paul Kane and Harry Gerkin who led us to a nice flock of 20 - 30
Palm warblers working along the Potomac River. Yellow-rumps and Phoebes were
mixed in. Also had a Trails' Flycatcher. Sparrows at Occoquan included
Chipping,
Song, Swamp, Savannah and White-throated. One Spotted Sandpiper was at
Occoquan. We saw about 10 Eagles over the Potomac this morning, One Kestrel and
1 RT
Hawk.
Sunday - Oct. 10th is the BIG SIT! - Come on out to the tower at Huntley
Meadows Park (Alexandria) or if you're down at the Eastern Shore Birding
Festival,
stop by the Kiptopeke Hawkwatch platform and sit on your butt! to look for
birds...Rich Rieger
