Howdy all,
Today was a much better day at least as far as the weather went. The wind
picked up later in the morning which forced us to close some nets, but all in
all, a very nice morning. We had our first little wave of migrants today. Some
were even quite fat. It was not the biggest day nor the most diverse but we
banded 33 birds of 9 species. The two dominate species today were AMERICAN
REDSTART and TRAILL'S (willow or alder) FLYCATCHER. Out of the nine species, we
had
five warblers (if you include YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT). So a nice day.
Butterflies are still very abundant on our Devil's Walkingstick. Today, a
Red-spotted Purple and Common Wood Nymph joined in on the action, while a
Red-banded Hairstreak enjoyed the ground a bit more. Still LOTS of Monarchs
around.
I hung up three hummingbird feeders here at my house yesterday afternoon and
it only took three hours before I noticed the first hummer. Today, there are
no less than four different individuals around (all RUBY-THROATED). One is a
very beautiful male (not that the females are not themselves)!

We had quite a few visitors today. They must be out enjoying such a nice day!
