Howdy all,
Today was a much better day at the banding station. We saw a lot more birds
move into the area today and it showed in our overall total banded. We ended
the day with a total of 243 birds. A big improvement over yesterdays 25. We
caught our first VESPER SPARROWS of the season, as well as, three late female
BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS. HERMIT THRUSH numbers continue to be high while
GRAY
CATBIRDS are finally tapering off. And as always, YELLOW-RUMPS are still
abundant.
Here are the totals for the 3 Nov:
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 8
Golden-crowned Kinglet 3
Winter Wren 1
Brown Creeper 3
Black-throated Blue Warbler 3
Western Palm Warbler 2
Yellow Palm Warbler 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler 164
Eastern Phoebe 2
Eastern Towhee 1
Chipping Sparrow 1
Field Sparrow 3
Swamp Sparrow 4
Song Sparrow 14
Vesper Sparrow 2 first of the season, 98th
species!
White-throated Sparrow 2
Slate-colored Junco 5
Hermit Thrush 17
Gray Catbird 2
American Robin 3
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
TOTAL ------------------------------- 243
The weather looks to be pretty nice the next few days. But that a lot of
times means low numbers at the station. Sure hope that is not the case!!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
