Walking home from the metro last night in the Courthouse area of Arlington,
I came upon a small bird sitting on the sidewalk. When I bent over to
examine it more closely, I saw that it was a Golden-crowned Kinglet. As I
put my hand down to see if it was OK, it jumped onto the end of my finger!
It sat there for a moment, seemed to realize where it was, and then flew
off, apparently unharmed and singing all the way...
I assume it had hit a nearby window and was briefly stunned. In any event,
it was a rare and special chance to hold such a beautiful feathered work of
art, and it made my day...
Just had to share with folks who'd appreciate the encounter.
