Virginia Birders,
My wife, Michelle, and I had a great morning birding the far western edge of
Virginia near the Kentucky border. There is a small hollow called Caney Island
Branch close to our house, and it is one of our favorite spots for quick hikes
on the weekend or after school. This morning we found several spring migrants
including our first Kentucky and Blackburnian Warblers of 2007. We spotted two
Kentucky Warblers (both male) and a beautiful flame-throated Blackburnian.
Below is a list of migrants spotted along the way:
American Redstart - (many!)
Cerulean Warbler - at least 4
Blacburnian Warbler
Kentucky Warbler
Hooded Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
Northern Paurla
Yellow Warbler
Yellow-throated Warbler
Blue-winged Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
Ovenbird
Yellow-throated Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue-headed Vireo
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Scarlet Tanager
Indigo Bunting
