Well, it seems that frigatebirds gave us the slip in this most recent
tropical storm, KYLE. Spurgeon Stowe saw one offshore off Hatteras, NC, last
week (perhaps Thursday the 10th), while the hawk counter at Cape Henlopen
State Park in Delaware saw one on Saturday morning. These birds could still
appear in the state, as frigatebirds tend to drift around a bit after
displacement. Neither frigatebird was identified to species, as far as I
know, but the likelihood is that both were Magnificent Frigatebirds.
