Two juvenile WHITE IBIS, first seen briefly on July 20, are still present on a
private pond in eastern Buckingham County, about 50 miles west of Richmond. A
small group of canoeists observed them quietly and at close range for half an
hour around sunset yesterday, August 2. The birds were flying back and forth
across a cove in the pond, landing in trees on either side, clearly displaying
their white rumps, orange bills and legs, and white bellies.
The location is 1.25 mi NNE of the intersection of Rts. 650 and 667, about 7
miles ENE of Dillwyn, VA, DeLorme p. 56, D-2.
This 30-acre impoundment is surrounded by private land, but if you really
want to see these birds, contact me off-list and we can work something out.
