The last reports I've heard of birds associated with the passage of Hurricane
Isabel have been 2 Bridled Terns at the CBBT on 21 September (W. T.
Pendleton) and 2 dead Sooty or Bridled Terns on the span the same day (R. L.
Ake et
al.). (If anyone has other records, please do forward them to the listserve
and
to Sue Heath.) Three hours of seawatching at the CBBT yesterday produced
nothing of great interest. On Saturday, an assistant scoutmaster found a
freshly-dead adult White-tailed Tropicbird in a field near Smithfield, Johnston
County, North Carolina; this is the third tropicbird associated with this
storm, the
other two being in Virginia. The most recent storm to have three tropicbirds
associated with it was Hurricane Gloria in 1985.
