A late post. Bart Hutchinson and I had a nice morning Sunday on the
Hike/Bike Trail. We began with a flyby woodcock in the first meadow. Dominant
bird
was black and white warbler -- we must have seen about 10, probably the most
I've seen in one day. We had a great view of an immature Cooper's hawk,
perched
low in the open, and flying in futile pursuit of a MoDo. Lots of
flycatchers, mostly pewees, and hummers (including some with bronze cast
(immature males
according to NGS), and one bird doing a pendulum-type display). Perhaps a
hundred swifts flew over, moving south, in small groups, with most soon after
sunrise. A Veery in a dying pine in the woodcock meadow in a mixed flock (not
sure I've seen a veery in such strong light before; it looked very red). Birds
